You know, my father's drinking, you know, just the changes in his tone of voice and that sort of thing.
And then just everything else, you know, I was always trying to kind of fit in and not make waves.
You know, I was just trying to stay in the background and not cause any turmoil because, you know,
Yeah, I was about to say my older brother and sister would cause turmoil.
Not of anything that they actually did, but they were more triggering to my parents than I was.
Well, I think a lot about my characters, and I think about this character, Jordan, in Heart the Lover, who walks into that house, and it's really when she walks into the house that things start happening, both for me as a writer and also for her as a character.
And I think my characters are always looking for a home, you know?
And I think I spent a long time in my 20s and early 30s
looking for a home.
You know, I could get very attached to people.
I did a lot of live-in babysitting, actually, and a lot of nannying.
And I could become very attached to the places where I worked, you know.
And I was just really, you know, I was lucky enough to meet my husband.
Yeah, I really did.
And I just

Yeah, I started my first book when I was very itinerant and wandering kind of around the world, you know, and I would just carry it with me and I would take new jobs and
You know, try to arrange my my jobs around my writing or at least arrange my writing around my jobs.
And I took about nine years.
