And every year after that, I would run into guys in places, restaurants, bars, sports bars, arenas, stadiums, whatever, and they would say they never took their sports from a woman before me.
And they always preface it with, don't take this the wrong way.
And I'm like, how can I take that the wrong way?
That's the greatest compliment ever.
And that's when I knew, you know, I'm in the right place.
Yeah, Dan, I mean, I know it sounds generic for me to say, but they all... What touched me about comments like Emily's and other women that are in the business now, and just regular sports fans, women that felt it was possible to love sports as much as guys, it was always the same kind of words about...
they never would have done it.
Like, they never would have had the confidence.
They never would have felt it was okay.
Also, the genuine part of it, right?
That's what I'm really proud of, Dan.
I'm always me.
It was always fan first for me.
When I was on the SportsCenter set, it was important for me to connect to the fan because I am a sports fan.
I didn't suddenly turn on a switch and say, all right, I'm going to be this broadcaster and win a few Emmys and, you know, make people cry in interviews.
No.
That's not what I was about.
This was about connecting with the fans and also being pro athlete.
I mean, in a small way, you know, I played hockey.
I was a goalie, made the boys team in high school, played all four years in college at Oswego State.
