Part of it is truly making an effort to get to know someone.

Yeah, one thing to note here is that just the sheer reach of software can expand a company's applicant pool far beyond expectations.

And this was particularly significant, of course, in the first couple of years after the COVID pandemic broke out, when so many jobs were remote and could have been done from anywhere.
From a sheer kind of location diversity perspective,
companies could and did pull in applicants from all over the place and so the flip side at this point is that we're in a moment where companies have a lot more leverage over the job application process they are less dependent on getting any talent any applicant in the door and can be choosier over
who they want to bring in for interviews to ultimately hire.
And so you've seen in this environment, many hiring managers basically lean on their networks to take that first pass.
Oh my gosh, frustrated maybe doesn't even go far enough.
Callum and I both have talked to hiring managers and job seekers who say this digital application process makes them want to bang their head against the wall.
Applicants can send so many applications out
and just hear nothing back or get automated responses over the weekend at wee hours of the morning, minutes after they submit a job application.
Many people see clicking submit to a website as this is a locked door.
Like I'll do this because I feel like I have to, but it's not going to get me anywhere.
When I talk to users of hiring software and people who think a lot about AI's role in the hiring process from the corporate and hiring manager vantage point, I think they have
A sense that short term, the digital avenues might be tougher to navigate longer term once the tech tools get better.
