A jury in Los Angeles just finding both Meta and Google-owned YouTube liable for negligence and failure to warn users about risks in a landmark trial.
Fox Business' Kelly Saberi at Superior Court in L.A., where Google argued in part YouTube is not a social media platform, and both YouTube and Meta emphasized efforts to safeguard users.
But witnesses, including whistleblowers, testified about internal research on risks and access to young users.

TikTok and Snap were also sued and settled before this trial, the verdict coming on day nine of deliberations.
The jury also awarding $3 million in compensatory damages to the plaintiff, and they find both companies acted with malice, oppression, or fraud, meaning a punitive damage phase will follow.
A Meta spokesperson says they respectfully disagree with the verdict and are evaluating legal options.
This comes just a day after a separate verdict in a New Mexico case finding Meta liable of misleading users and endangering children, which the company plans to appeal.
