And so once I'd written the book, it was so important to me that I got Patria's approval on the book.
That was the one that mattered to me.
The publisher was one thing, but Patria was the final word for me.
And she's just so thrilled that Australia now knows her great aunt.
Well, she was 54 years of age and she'd been unwell for a little while and her passing absolutely threw William away.
As a doctor, he wanted desperately to be the one to be able to save her and he couldn't and it completely broke him.
And so eight days after Evelyn passed away, William passed away.
Where are they buried?
Well, the extraordinary thing is they are buried at Waverley Cemetery in Sydney, which is a place I'd never been to before.
You know, I've flown over it hundreds of times and always seen what a magnificent place it was there by the sea.
But I discovered in my research with Petria that
that William was the one who chose Evelyn's final resting spot.
And he chose it because it faced the sea.
Because Evelyn never lost her love of the water, rowing upon it, travelling across it.
Despite what happened that night with the Titanic,
The sea was what she always loved, so he made sure that her resting spot faces the sea at Waverley Cemetery.
And I never, in all the time that I was researching and writing the story, I wanted every piece of Evelyn that I could get, but I kept that moment of going in and being with her forever.
until after I had finished the manuscript and Patria had signed off on the book.
And so I went very early one morning because I felt that for both Evelyn and myself, this felt like a new chapter for both of us.
And I wanted to be with her before that chapter opened up.
