Someone else bumped into me from behind, and I turned in time to see the color sliding out of my shoulder, the brown of my skin going slate, then silver, and then an ugly, powdery white, before going completely translucent.
I tried to push my way out of the crowd, but the press of bodies was too much.
I could feel myself being buffeted on all sides, and I screamed as my hands, my legs, my chest all started to disappear.
My hands were gone.
I tried to call out, but the music was so loud, and the dancers around me didn't even look at me.
All these magic users, and not one could sense me near them.
Couldn't even be bothered to hear me, even as I screamed, Hey!
I'm here!
I felt the magic flood into my fingertips, and in a rush, I realized that meant I must still have fingertips left.
I closed my eyes, fought to shut out the noise of the party all around me, tried to ground myself and listen for what was really there.
