This is very bittersweet.

I mean, I covered his first French Open victory at

when he had just turned 19, and I covered his most recent just last summer.

So in a way, I feel like I know his story.

But to prepare to talk to you, I've really been studying the numbers and the record, and it's just mind-blowing.

It's mind-blowing.

But nothing that I'm hearing is good.

And, you know, he's the one pulling out of each tournament.

You know, it's his words, and he's just saying –

you know, he's not able, hasn't been able to practice at a high level and you know, this takes time.

So he has withdrawn from every clay court preparatory event in the run-up to this French open.

And he has never contested a French open without competing on at least one clay event.

He hasn't played on clay since a year ago and he's only played four matches this year.

Um,

So, you know, he's injured.

I cannot see him, you know, just showing up at the French and playing his way into form.

That's not how he rolls.

Boy, I don't know.

That really goes beyond me.
