Now, what are those signals?
Well, they're things like light, sound, movement, energy.
even the natural electromagnetic fields around us.
So one of the simplest ways to think about this, I think, is that our biology evolved in a constant relationship with natural environmental signals.
So if you look at light, natural sunlight, this provides different wavelengths of light that influence our circadian rhythms and our hormone production, our mitochondrial function.
Mitochondria, the key to healthspan and living well for longer, are key players in light signalling.
They need different signals from light.
It's really important.
Honestly, I know this sounds like a shameless plug for my book, but it's really important that we understand this.
And that's why light is such an integral part of my book, How to Age, because we need to understand what is the good light that gives us the wavelengths that we need and what is the form of light that damages us and how it damages us.
So, for example, sitting under LED lights, super damaging.
And that comes down to wavelengths.
So then we've got something like movement.
So what movement is doing is it's creating mechanical vibration.
And that's through our muscles and our bones and our connective tissue and our lymphatic flow and our signaling in cells, which is being stimulated by blood circulation.
So movement is really important.
And then you've got nature.
So spending time outdoors, that's giving us natural vibrational inputs.
So we've got environmental frequencies, we've got negative ions coming from the earth, which is why I talk about standing on the ground barefoot, because we're actually absorbing that natural frequency from the earth, which tends to calm the nervous system.
And then, of course, you can go deep down into the woo if you want and start talking about crystals and different types of vibrational EMF protectors and gadgets that you wear stuck to your phone or around your neck or whatever.
