How are you?
I want to talk about the band Proto Martyr and their latest record.
It's called Hotel Usona.
Proto Martyr.
They are a band from Detroit.
They've been making music for, I don't know, about 15 years now or so.
And each record seems to get better.
This one is purely a concept record.
It starts out with a song called The Old Hotel, which kind of serves as the hotel theme.
It's like a welcome postcard after checking into this hotel.
It gives you a clue of what is about to come.
And the song itself hovers between this solemn observation and intense frustration.
Then you start to hear some of the political shifting that happens with the record.
By the time we get to sounds we cannot hear, that frustration is in full force.
It starts like a train and it just keeps on going.
It's probably the closest to a wall of sound that they have for this
But I think it's really worth noting for this record, they teamed up with a new producer to them, Dave Fridman, who is so brilliantly knows how to dissect all of the different instrumentation and textures and layers.
And it sounds so fantastic.
do hear these little bits of, let's say, the words that are used are quite intricate, just sort of thrown about by Joe Casey.
