The White House announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire, giving some hope that it could help put talks between the US and Iran back on track.

The end of hostilities is contingent on Hezbollah halting all attacks.

There was no immediate indication whether the group had accepted the terms of the deal.

The Israeli ambassador to the US, Yehiel Leiter, says that under the agreement, Hezbollah fighters will have to leave the border area near Israel.

You hear Leiter speaking there following the US-mediated talks with Lebanon.

Iran had demanded that Israel stop striking his bullet targets in Lebanon as part of any agreement with the US.

Tehran and Washington have exchanged limited strikes in recent days in what has been the most serious flare-up since that fragile ceasefire took effect in April.
