Never thought I'd say this, but a wag bag, and for those of you who don't know, that is a bag that you poop into so you can pack your feces out of the backcountry.
A wag bag got me out of a ticket.
Earlier this year, my girlfriend and I were backpacking through a canyon in Grand Staircase-Escalante region in Utah.
It was a three-day trip, and on the second day, we ran into a ranger on the trail who asked for our overnight permits.
When we got to the trailhead, they had run out of permit slips, so we just wrote our names and information on a piece of paper and dropped it in the box.
By the time we ran into the ranger, there really wasn't any way to prove it.
As he looked over our packs, he noticed the two wag bags hanging off the back.
He said that anyone who cared enough to pack those in was helping take care of the land, thanked us for doing our part, and sent us on our way without a ticket.
Man, that's a good story.
