Um, so Lassen pack trickled in, in 2011, naturally from Oregon, uh, formerly identified in 2016 as the first breeding pair.
Um, at the time of the study here in 2023 and 2024, there's 50 individuals in about six packs.
And as I've become the scat study guy, uh, around these parts, this study is a scat pickup.
Um, it covers, like I said, Lassen and Harvey packs, which is about 20 wolves.
through the summers of 2022 and 2023, which is defined by June through October because of the overlap with grazing on public land.
And in this study, there were 86% of the scat samples picked up had cattle in them compared to in the teens and 20s for mule deer or any other wild prey.

This scat pickup method, as opposed to the iguano method that was just purely counting, they did very rigorous, extremely scientific methods.
The first being mitochondrial sequencing to confirm the species that was eaten, microsatellite genotyping, which confirms the identity of individual wolves, and DNA metabarcoding to identify the prey DNA in that scat.
