Good evening, everybody, and uh very warm welcome to the London Review Bookshop, um where tonight it is a pleasure to welcome Martha Sprackland and James Butler.
By way of very brief introduction, Martha is a writer, poet, translator.
Her debut poetry collection, Citadel, was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, the John Pollard International Poetry Prize and the Cost of Poetry Award.
James Butler is a contributing editor at the LRB and host of the podcast on politics.
Tonight, James will be talking to Martha about her new translation of John of the Cross's Dark Cross, packaged very handsomely in this Penguin Classics edition.
