Morning Claire.
Yes, this will be bad news for those who are learning to drive or indeed waiting to be invited to book
Their driving test in North Dublin.
So the RSA confirming to the Irish Examiner yesterday afternoon that their Raheini test centre will close from the 18th of September, with all tests moved by to nearby Colester from September 21st.
Now, Colester was set up following backlogs in Raheini after the COVID-19 pandemic.
So had been set up kind of as an additional additionality to that test.
Centre.
Now the RSA saying to us yesterday afternoon that they will make accommodations for additional tests in Cholester that this won't impact tests.
They said they have no
You know, the the Raheini uh they have difficulties with Rahini because of building works in the area that's restricting capacity at the centre and they actually just can't meet demand.
Like you said, there's currently a twenty-nine week wait at Raheini to be invited to book your test.
According to figures obtained by Sinn Fein's uh transport spokesperson, Pad Daly, that's up from eighteen weeks this time last year.
So there is a significant
significant growth in the amount of time that drivers are l waiting to do their tests in Raheini.
Absolutely.
And if you look, like you said earlier, Claire at the m number of people who are waiting to do their tests in North Dublin, they have two thousand eight hundred and fifty five people on the waiting list currently in Raheini, as well as one thousand three hundred and eighty-one people for cholesterol.
So if you put the two of them together, you're well over four thousand people there waiting to do a test and that will have knock on impacts.
People will travel elsewhere to do their tests.
What we're also seeing as well, quite worryingly, and this is something that we have reported on in the Irish Examiner before, is learners turning to unauthorized third-party apps seeking to book a test.
Now, these are apps that are available through your app stores on your smartphone, and they are charging anywhere between 15 euro and 95 euro to go and they purport to say that they're they can get you a canceled.
