So this is what I don't know if listeners know about this, but it's called the fractal dementia.
If you think about how you draw a line, for example, over a sheet of paper, you could draw just a bunch of points and that would have fractal dimension zero.
It behaves like a point.
It could have the fractal dimension 1 if it just really looks like a line, a straight line, or maybe a circle, but something that looks like a line.
Or it could fill the space.
You actually color it all in.
It could fractal dimension of 2.
It turns out that people tend to explore space in cities in this way that looks like a line.
You go from home, you go to work, you go to a grocery store, go to school, do this.
So that fractal dimension being one and the other fractal dimension and the dimension of space being two are actually important.
And it's a combination of that that gives you one six in a way that I could try to explain.
But it's basically two and there's a third that comes from two plus one and it all ends up being one six.
But...
So if you had cities in space, in three dimensions, for example, or like in a sci-fi movie, we've seen some of those, then this number would not be 1-6.
Ah.
Okay, so it would be different.
And you can calculate what it is, and you can try to engineer a transportation system to make it different, and so on.
So just to say, this number depends on things that we could go and measure.
So that's one aspect of it.
It's a fundamental number given a few things, like how people explore space in the city and the space in which the object is embedded in real space.
