I think readers do far more than they're given credit for.
Particularly, I don't think they need everything explained to them.
although perhaps television's changing that a bit.
Television's altered the endings a good deal because in the average television industry,
But even if it's a Simpsons or something, you don't get the old definite ending.
In fact, just when you're expecting to find out what has happened, the credits roll up, begin to roll up.
And you get used to that.
And I think novels go the same way.
They don't have a definite ending.
If, as often happens, a TV is taken from a novel, they will very often remove the definite ending.
and substitute the credit rolling type, you know, sort of peer through the credit, trying to find out if you can find out a bit more, but no, it's over.
