Eligibility rules for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, or the NDIS, will be tightened as the government looks to cut 160,000 recipients.
Health Minister Mark Butler announced sweeping changes to curb NDIS spending during a press club address in Canberra today.
As part of the reforms, all 760,000 NDIS recipients will be reviewed using new standardised assessments to be rolled out from 2028.
The eligibility tests will be developed by an advisory group in consultation with the disability community and states and territories.
The overall cost of the NDIS was forecast to reach $70 billion annually by 2030.
