Oh, accidentally fell into being the greatest of all time.
It's a great question because there's a moment that certainly precedes when we were born that really solidified his status as a broadcasting icon.
That came during the 1979 series Life on Earth.
During filming for that series, Attenborough had this iconic encounter with a mountain gorilla in Rwanda.
It's this moment that most of us would probably be absolutely shitting our pants if we were in this situation, but the care that he handled the moment with really spoke to audiences.
He showed the vulnerability of
humanity and the kind of soft side of these fascinating creatures.
Here's a little bit of what that moment sounded like.
So that was back in the 70s.
But of course, he went on to produce hundreds of documentaries, content that has been watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
When Blue Planet 2 alone aired in 2017, it garnered 14 million views in the UK for the first episode.
That was the highest figure for the entire year in UK viewership.
It had a noticeable impact on
internet speeds in parts of the world.
Like in China, where 80 million people watched that first episode.
And that's just one Attenborough series.
You absolutely have to.
