In total, I would say if it's not a million dollars, it's close to it.
Wow, a million dollars.
Yeah, well, there were three years there where I was on $400,000 a year in the NRL and I had no money.
I finished that career with nothing and in $200,000 worth of debt.
So I, you know, I really can't put a figure on it, but it's very, very large.
What was it like for you returning to your original world, Western Queensland, after this stop off on what seems like another planet?
Yeah.
It was the best thing I ever did because for me, that was like returning home.
And I think it gave me, it was a place where I healed and it gave me the space to breathe and just not be in places where I was tempted by bad things or bad behaviors or all of the routines that I'd built that revolved around all these really harmful, corrosive environments and behaviors that I was in, that just took me out of them.
And then I was back in the country and I was back in the fresh air.
I had no one and nothing but myself.
And it was just healing in and of itself.
Where are you now in your recovery, Luke?
I'm probably about 400 days sober, probably 450 days now.
It'll be about like 16 months sober, completely sober.
Because even after rehab and once I got into recovery,
Recovery is never a linear journey.
You know, I think in the beginning it was one step forward, one step back, and then two steps forward, one step back, three steps forward, one step back.
You know, it was always for about three years I would go three months without gambling, five months without gambling, four months without gambling.
Like I was always, I was slowly getting better and better and better.
