But they come down to like Hispaniola, Jamaica. And in the early 1500s, they start poking around on the shores of the Yucatan. And. And they're kind of trading and interacting with these people. These are explorers.

And maybe more than a decade later, when Cortez arrives in the Maya world, he documents how all the Maya people are very scrawny and small and sickly and weak. He didn't realize they were all dying off.
