It's a not-for-profit pharmaceutical company focused on developing marijuana and psychedelics into approved legal prescription medicine.
Their highest priority project is funding clinical trials of MDMA as a tool to assist psychotherapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder.
They've been doing what are called phase two pilot studies for the past 16 years.
The participants are given MDMA and go through an eight-hour psychotherapy session.
Rick Doblin and his colleagues are very optimistic about the outcome of their latest research.
The researchers at MAPS estimate from their research so far that two-thirds of the people who have treatment resistant PTSD can be helped with this kind of psychotherapy.
Maps are now in phase three of their pilot study.
