And at one stage when you returned to Australia after success and saw your old friends, you said some distrust crept in and you said that the truth was that they like me for what I was, not who I was.

And you've called your autobiography very aptly just another hurdle.
Um what would you say have been the toughest personal hurdles for you throughout your life?
Oh, it's a tough one.
Mm-hmm.
And can you pinpoint the time when you realised that your sporting identity was diminishing for you?
Um, how did you make that decision to that you needed to let your sporting aspirations go?
But it must be a very difficult thing because it was such a strong identity you had in the athletics field.
So how have you been able to let that go without being too sad and feeling too much of a sense of loss, but also look forward and be positive and optimistic about your new identity?
