Even if you don't vocalize it, you know, in front of anyone else about the change or the things you're experiencing, once that seed's been planted, it's kind of like the idea of the movie Inception.
Once an idea has been planted in your head, it's hard to get it out.
And then once you have something planted in your heart,
whether it's humanity or hatred, whatever's in your heart, that's rooted in there.
And that takes much, much longer to change.
And so I don't think about changing minds.
I think about changing hearts.
If I can get you to see me as a human being, even if you still don't want to see me as equal, it's hard for you to get past the fact that you know internally I'm a human being.
Right you're going to have internal issues wrestling with your own spirit because you're trying to do something externally that's in conflict with what you know inherently in your heart, so I focus in on the heart and it's one of the things that you know when you talk to.
Crisis management people and they're dealing with a dangerous situation, one of the first thing they say to do.
It's to talk to the person and learn their name and try to make it personal because you're not trying to change their mind.
You're trying to first reach their heart and reach the person and figure out why they're hurting and why they're doing the things that they're doing.
And so when I write, I try to use facts to justify what I'm saying.
But what I'm saying is meant to hit you in the heart, not in the mind.
I mean, I'm probably not always successful, but that is my goal.
It's a scary time right now if you're in media.
I'm a journalist.
I teach journalism.
I'm trying to figure out a way to try to teach it in a way that inspires people and not have them be fearful.
But you see what's going on all around.
