And I couldn't sleep peacefully at night until I had written that column.

I couldn't get it out.

Like I couldn't just chill and say someone else is going to do it.

I had to get my own feelings and thoughts out about what happened.

It's called, you know, it's very similar to what happens with politicians, where the people move on and the politics catch up later.

People have moved on in a lot of ways in terms of how they're consuming news.

And I think the industry is catching up.

I'm still at ABC.

I'm still at LA Times.

I have my own podcast, which is my own independent sort of thing.

So I have two feet in both places.

The reality of the landscape is that media is changing.

I'm choosing to still stay and fight in legacy media as long as I can because I know the history of legacy media.

And I don't want to let usurpers

come into journalism and kick out journalists because they're using some other metric of success.

And I call them usurpers because their interest in media is a capitalist driven and my interest in media as most journalists interest in media is truth driven.

And sometimes those things are in conflict.

And I don't let the usurpers interfere with what the purpose of a journalist needs to be.

I try to help them by explaining why I feel these things need to be done.

But I just can't.
