I'm not detectable.

I can't spread it.

I'm not getting sick.

I don't have any of the physical attributes of some of the earlier patients who had the AZTs where the concentration of subcutaneous fat was located in the abdomen.

I don't have that.

So yeah, I guess you could say I could pass.

And in some ways, I guess you could say I have been passing.

it's not like a active sort of, you know, trying to hold anything back.

You know, I mean, Don, you know this, being Black in media, there's just not a lot of us.

And, you know, I've been in the national platforms now for, you know, more than half my career.

And I've been openly gay my entire career.

So it's just been decades of, you know, feeling like I couldn't make a mistake.

Decades of knowing that I represent way more than myself, whether it was, you know, being a Black reporter in an all-white area or being openly queer in a conservative one.

I knew I represented more than just me, you know, at all times.

And so...

I just gotten so accustomed to that responsibility that I never, it never occurs to me to think of anything other than my existence, really.

You know, so to think of anything that I'm doing as heroic just never really factors into my thought process because this is just the way that I felt like I've had to exist.

I mean, even before dating, just normal, you know, crushes in school, you know, or crushes on celebrities or, you know, your favorite, you know, singer, you know, things that, you know, heterosexuals, I'm assuming don't even have to think twice about that.

If you like a certain singer, if you're, if you're a guy and you like this singer, then, you know, that's just what it is.
