But you see what's going on all around.

And so it's easy to see why some people may not want to talk about something that's controversial.

But personally, I just don't have a choice.

I just...

Sleep well at night.

I take, you know, the late great John Lewis's words to heart, you know, make trouble, good trouble, necessary trouble.

You know, so it's, I had no choice.

I actually wasn't going, on the 4th of July, I did my 250th piece, right?

And then, you know, the murder or the death happens and everyone's kind of changed in terms of what they're focused in on.

And I spent several days after that debating whether or not I wanted to write about it because it just felt like everyone was already talking about it.

You know what I mean?

You've had that as a journalist, Don, where it feels like the story is kind of like the legs are wearing out a little bit.

Exactly.

But then I remembered something that I read, and I forgot the name of the author and I'm struggling right now, but it's basically you have to be you no matter what because you never know who's depending on you to be you.

So even though everyone else have already may have touched on it or talked about a little bit, to your point,

Because of my lived experiences, what I have to say about the situation may be what someone out there who I do not know needs to hear.

And it may be the words that only I can say because I've only had those lived experiences that would touch the right person at the right time.

And each of us have that same path.

We may not necessarily answer the call to say something, as you said, Don, but I believe that we're particularly those of us who have decided to speak out, particularly those of us who are journalists who are speaking truth to power.

There is something inside of us that says we have to we must because that's why we're here.
