The king of sex differences telling us, I don't think there's a sex difference there, which is kind of funny.

So it's kind of like the gender inequality paradox, but except with like the abundance paradox, let's say, we're becoming, you know, interesting.

Yeah, I mean, I spoke to the anthropologist William Buckner about this, and he actually had a real gripe about the evo-psych studies on sex differences and mate preferences.

And his gripe was that if the logic is that the EEA is what forged these, then they really should be more consistent, the environment of evolutionary adaptedness.

Which is, you know, it's caricatured as like, oh, there was like 10,000 years in the Pleistocene where we're really, but it's really, it's like a composite of all selection that has happened essentially.

And Steve could probably summarize it better than me.

But his perspective, which I think is really fair, was that these sex differences and mate preferences are less consistently found

in these small-scale hunter-gatherer societies, and they're more consistently found in these industrialized populations.

And that feels like... It gives me a gut feeling of like, something's a little odd here.

Because really, if it was like, these are formed by...

These sex differences and mate preferences evolved in a hunter-gatherer context, and then you go and ask the schwar, and they're like, hey, we actually don't really agree with you about that.

That's real alarm bells.

And some of them even seem to be reversed.

Like among the Wodabe of the Sahel region, it's men who are wearing tons of makeup and looking incredibly glamorous.

And they actually stand side by side in male beauty pageants.
