Is the effect less for men than it is for women?

The effect, it's really complicated and it depends on which specific measure you're talking about.

And so it depends.

We could kind of go into detail in there.

Our main analyses were testing the effects of the variables on both sexes.

It's interesting, man.

And we didn't find beauty preferences moved, which actually wouldn't make sense to a social role theorist.

Can you explain?

As in social rule theorists, they generally say, oh, the reason that mate preferences for beauty are different is because there are social and economic gender differences.

But those experimentally, it doesn't really show up in the cross-cultural data to begin with, but also doesn't show up in the experiments.

And then weirdly, the age differences didn't move.

The age preferences, those didn't move.

And I really expected them to because we pre-registered that we thought that that was going to happen because that's what the cross-cultural literature showed, but it didn't.

However, mate preferences for resources, which is really what you'd expect to move in this sort of experiment because that's the strategic variable that's being adjusted.

It makes a lot of sense.

I think verbally, I could talk about the modeling work and I could talk about it in a really obscure way.

But at a very basic level, I find it very intuitive that it's like if I was poor,

And if women were rich, yeah, I would want to date someone rich more than I currently do now.

And vice versa.

We even saw this in our qualitative data where when women were in conditions where it's like, oh, you have a lot of money and men are really poor.
