Appearances
We are all, we are not, we are not born a good person and then fall into sin and given to sin.
We are
born into sin.
Scripture is very clear of that.
Born in with a sin nature.
And we were all deserving of wrath, Ephesians 2 tells us.
But because of God's great love, he rescued us.
He pulled us out of that water.
He pulled us out of the pit and he set our feet on a rock.
He gave us breath.
He gave us life.
He gave us hope and purpose.
And the beautiful thing and good news of what Jesus Christ offers us is that he didn't just save us and take away the bad.
He also gave us all the good.
It says in the book of Corinthians, I can't remember if it's 1 Corinthians or 2 Corinthians, but it says that he became sin who knew no sin so that in him we may become righteous.
And so he not only took away our sin, he also clothed us in his righteousness.
And so he saved my life, but then he also made me clean and whole and purified me and gave me a purpose and a joy and a peace that I couldn't find apart from him.
And the reality and the truth that I took away from that moment and what I often go back to and write about in my book is that we can't save ourselves and we are deserving of wrath.
Apart from him, I would have drowned.
Apart from him, I would have died.
