That's where they were sent.

It didn't really, it made me very worried.

And these are the same age as my daughters.

So one of the rules was to go into the county workhouse, you had to be separated.

So children and adults were separated.

So often there were children, if they were young enough, didn't know who their parents were, didn't know where they were from, had no idea where it was they'd come from or where they could possibly go back to or what happened to them.

Some of them were kind of hired out as farmhands and treated little better than slaves.

Some of them were given trades and a lot of them were sent to factories to be in service in Britain.

Yeah.

I mean, reading the workhouse, the sort of famine workhouse documents was awful because it just gave a glimpse into the kind of horrific political, social upheaval.
