Okay, so I had been writing about this for many, many years and trying to get people to pay attention to it.
And it is extraordinary, the power of celebrity and money, because when she stepped into it, all of a sudden it was on a completely different level than all of us who had been sort of trying to get attention to it for, you know, literally decades.
So, I mean, what's astonishing to me about the fact that she went there is that in 1980, they were torturing children.
And they were using a thing called the hair dance, where they were dragging people around by their hair.
And they were doing all kinds of
confrontational and humiliating things.
This place was torturing children, and everybody thought it was fine as long as you call it therapy.
And it just was allowed to do so for decades and decades afterwards.
And the fact that Paris Hilton's parents, who presumably have a lot of money and can check a lot of stuff out, sent her to this place that has had a terrible reputation since the 70s was quite astonishing.
I mean, I'm overjoyed.
It is delightful to see that this place is finally closed, but it has been allowed to do harm since 1971.

Tell us about the school itself.
So it is a so-called behavior modification facility.
They were using lie detectors.
They were reading people's mail.
They were strip searching them.
And the whole idea of the troubled teen industry
and the core programs, what their idea is that these are bad people that are broken and we need to break them before they can be fixed.
and so we confront them we humiliate them we sexually humiliate them we do everything in our power we starve them we beat them sometimes we isolate them we make sure that the milieu is set up such that nobody can actually make any friends because the only way to advance in the program
