Then lastly, because urbanization is rising across many Nigerian and African cities, lots of trees are being cut down.
Vultures need trees.
And when you cut down their trees and take away their nest and take away their eggs,
they're not going to be vultures.
So this has been happening so fast and so critically.
And unfortunately, vultures aren't like cats that have lots of pups.
They have maybe one chick all their life.
And when you do this, it takes lots of years to replenish.
I may not personally know by experience because I'm not involved in traditional worship, but from what I've heard, it is widespread.
The conservationists that I've been speaking with say they sometimes engage traditional healers who tell them, as at five years ago,
a vulture or a vulture path could be as low as 50,000 Naira.
But because of the high demand, now they go as high as 250,000 Naira.
People really are hunting and looking for vultures for these purposes.
