So, um, with the woodblock prints, um, so there's three cultures that kind of varies up at the same time.

It was like the woodblock prints or the ukiwaya, um, the kabuki, and then also the woodblock prints.

And they all had a relationship where they were influencing.

Yeah, and the tattoos, yeah.

And so they're all influencing each other.

And so a lot of the charismatic roles were played by tattooed people in the kabuki theater.

And then the ukiyo-e, the woodblock print masters, they were depicting the protagonists of the kabuki.

And they'd make increasingly sophisticated tattoo depictions within the woodblock print.

And particularly with these kinds of Robin-esque kind of like, kind of protagonists, like, um, like the most famous series is like by, um, Utagawa Kuniyoshi and he did a series on Suikoden, which is like these, um, it's like basically a Chinese tale, but it depicts like 108 kind of like heavily tattooed, like Robin-esque kind of bandits.

And so that became part of the popular consciousness and the woodblock prints basically informed the Japanese tattoo.

So when you look at a Japanese tattoo, basically it's a woodblock print conformed to the body.

So a lot of the Japanese tattoo masters, they're obsessed with woodblock prints.

Yeah, yeah.

They're really obsessed with like...

Yeah, when I spend time with them, it's like a lot of the time we're going to woodblock print shows and stuff like that, like going to gym watch or looking for reference material.

It's like just like it's a real fascination and obsession with just like the source imagery and also being like –

So the two artisans I've followed around the most over my career would be like, would be Horitoku and then, um, another guy's Horikazu and so he's in Asakusa, but, um, he, like he's, he's very much involved in like the whole Stamachi downtown culture.

So like, um, like the Matsuri, like he's like, he runs a Mikoshi, which is a portable shrine.

He does the organization.

Um, every single day he goes to a centaur, like every single day.
