And it's like it does c they collect a lot of beaks.
So I'm gonna try and d get the exact number.
So from nineteen forty five to nineteen sixty, two hundred and eighty-four thousand seven hundred and twenty-four beaks were recorded.
I mean that's certainly a fair bit more than the you know, the the mere two thousand, three thousand that were collected in the official emu war.
If we view success through the lens of dead emus, is that an effective win?
One of the reasons I like the story is that it obviously has a funny component to it, but there's also like a there's a darkness to it, which is you've got, you know, traumatized service people who have been asked to spread her out across the country, asked to build lives with uh, you know, extreme trauma from World War One.
And it also kind of speaks a little bit to what happens to colonists and settlers in this country when you're in land that, you know, that is not necessarily designed for you.
That's me putting that diplomatically.
It kind of reveals something at the very core of Australia, which is um just how challenging that settler colonialism actually is for all parties.
The EMU was considered a pest by the settlers, but of course Indigenous Australians held a very different view.
Do you think when Strikeforce Emu was making its way across the Wheat Belt, do you think they could have seen coming how it was gonna play out?
Why do you think this story has persisted in the imagination for so many people?
Is it just that it's funny or is there more to it than that?
When you look back at this particular war, like what do you think the lessons are?
