And the Brazilian environmental minister actually went on record with the BBC as saying, we had to clear cut the forest.
Well, first of all, they need to have the traffic flowing for the limousines and the SUVs.
They need for all the private jets and all the world leaders, they needed to be able to move.
But secondly, he wants as many people as possible crammed into the city of Belim so they can showcase to the world how they've been saving the rainforest.
And now, of course, they want to be paid billions of dollars not to chop down the rainforest.
So the whole thing is just, it's sort of the UN climate circus in a nutshell.
Well, great question.
I've been going to 22 of the last 24.
My first one was the UN Earth Summit in 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The biggest change I've witnessed is the corporatization of the UN Climate Summit.
In other words, if you went back in 2002, 2005, 2008, I've been to Kenya and to Bali and to
South America, Buenos Aires, Lima, Peru, all over the world.
I've been to Cairo, actually Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, we've been to Dubai, we've been to Marrakech, Morocco.
The old UN summits would have a lot of the sort of left-wing, old-school environmentalists lamenting about capitalism, pro-socialism.
It was just what you would expect, a lot of aging hippies.
And about
Late 2000s, certainly anything post-COVID, it's all been co-opted.
And what's happened is it's called the financialization of nature.
