One Northern Virginia man who came here from Afghanistan in 2016 said he was grieving for the guardsmen and upset that the Trump administration is pausing asylum cases for Afghans, including those who served alongside American soldiers.

He asked NPR not to use his full name because he fears Taliban retaliation against relatives still in Afghanistan.

The man is now a U.S.

citizen helping resettle other Afghans, many of whom are worried about being caught up in immigration raids, despite their legal status, he said.
