Primarily women and children in humanitarian crisis are all at increased risk of sepsis.
With the 2030 global agenda, we were able not only to consolidate the latest evidence, but to consolidate and map the sepsis response and success stories.
To summarize that as of today, only 15 countries, less than 10% of the UN member states, have national action plans or national policies for sepsis.
Most of those countries are high income.
And six countries, including Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, UK, and USA, have been also
shared as the success stories to learn from.
Even if we heard from Honorable Honorable McKinley that even UK faces a lot of challenges with sepsis.
Still, United Kingdom is considered to be one of the best performing countries in terms of awareness raising and national
protocols and guidance through sepsis clinical pathways and bundles.
We also have six additional countries who have made substantial efforts in awareness raising campaigns and capacity building.
And in most of these countries, sepsis survivors and families affected by this devastating medical emergency were the driving forces behind the historic changes.
Unfortunately, we see very few countries where policymakers were the initiators of the global or the national advocacy efforts and the strategic plan.
The document also summarises um the economic case for sepsis and as of today the average cost of sepsis medical treatment, direct medical cost per sepsis, accounts to thirty six thousand euros.
And those resources represent only twenty to thirty percent of the overall societal costs.
Seventy to eighty percent of the societal burden of sepsis are related to lost productivity due to premature disability, death, or morbidity.
And almost half of the sepsis patients after one year of hospital treatment remain unemployed first time after their illness.
So it also bears a huge social and economic cost to our societies.
