But, well, yeah, there was six of us.

Mum and Dad and Auntie Bridie came one year.

Oh, yes, definitely.

I mean, I left Ireland in the 80s.

I had a job, unlike most people, but it was restless, you know, so I managed to get a leave of absence from my job in the lab, by chemistry lab in Watford Regional Hospital.

And I headed off to Australia for a year now with no job there.

And I spent my time, you know, backpacking around, doing all sorts of jobs.

Then the year was up.

I said, oh, I'll have another year.

They gave me another year.

They gave me a third year.

So I was in New Zealand, Australia for a year and a half.

You know, I worked on sheep farms, coffee shops, radio school of the air.

You know, all those kind of some jobs don't even exist anymore.

Yeah.

You know, yeah.

And then I came back very slowly through Asia.

And I remember being in Bangkok and my brother was the only one in the family that had a bit of money because he was a dentist.

And I contacted Tony and he wired me money and that kept me going for about another five months.

I think it was about 500 quid.
