The BBC is reporting that, yes, indeed, ships have passed through the strait.

And China's senior diplomats are now saying that this is ridiculous and it's dangerous.

And it does beg the question of what happens if a Chinese ship says, I'm not stopping, and an American ship tries to stop it and there's some kind of a set-to.

It's really fraught with danger, this whole tactic.
