But these are the kind of intuitions I have in mind.
The model isn't is not really evil.
It's not really trying to take over the world or something in sort of a villain fashion.
It's just in order to achieve my goal, I just like the guardrail is annoying.
It's like in my way.
And then it also knows that we don't want it to take away the guardrail, so it will be deceptive about it by default.
And this is where my worry comes from.
And right now this doesn't really matter that much because the models just aren't doing very long tasks.
But if you extrapolate in a few years into the future and you have models doing these like very long trajectory tasks, then I think they will and also when they like interact with the real world much more.
That that is where I imagine some of the deception should really come from.
Yeah, and and so one of the reasons why I'm like slightly but not super concerned about the flattery aspects and the modeling humans, I definitely think they will learn to model humans either way.
It's just you train them on the internet.
What else should they learn?
But
Where it's almost impossible that they don't learn it.
But the kind of scenario where you then have models that are just like somewhat sycophantic or like somewhat flattering and so on, I'm like
It's not gonna be very destructive.
It's like suboptimal.
It may introduce sort of long run biases into society and it may be like
