Hey, I'm Kayla Brantley, reporter at large for the Daily Mail in Manhattan.
And welcome to episode 10 of The Trial of Diddy. It's a quick update this week, as the case, quite naturally, has gone a little quiet ahead of the May 5th court date. But we also want to dig into some of your comments and thoughts that have come through. So stick around for that later on in the show. But now let's get to what's happening in the news. What do you have for us, Marjorie?
And it's always important to say that Combs has pleaded not guilty to all of these charges.
Yeah, and Marjorie, I want to read this directly from the document. It says, quote, given the incredibly broad nature of the alleged conspiracy here, the government's response, which boils down to, you know what you did, is wholly unpersuasive. That is especially true given the wild and ever expanding allegations appearing in the press from both government agents and civil attorneys, unquote.
The lawyers then go on to say, quote, against this backdrop, a never ending circus of salacious and baseless allegations, Mr. Combs is entitled to know the basic nature of the government's actual case against him, unquote.
Yeah, and Marjorie, Diddy's lawyers have pointed toward new evidence that they say, quote, makes clear the government's case is thin. And as we said earlier, there's been a very natural slowing down of claims and counterclaims in this case recently. For the past few weeks, it felt like there were new allegations coming out all the time, but recently things have slowed down.
So it'll be really interesting to see how this develops. And it's important to be clear that Diddy and his attorneys have always maintained the rapper's innocence. And they provided DailyMail.com with a statement that Sean Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone, whether they be, quote, man or woman, adult or minor.
Okay, well, this one is from BainbridgeNZ, who says... You keep going over old ground. Please give more details. And honestly, Bainbridge and Z, this is a really good point. But it's important to say that the trial hasn't started yet. So there's only a certain amount of verified information that's out there. And much of the other material washing around is, as you can imagine, legally untouchable.
We have our lawyers go through every episode to make sure that everything we say is factual. So we don't want to just, you know, throw out different theories just because we can. So we want to be clear and concise, but we also have to make sure that what we're talking about is appropriate.

Maybe it's actually that their consciousness was awoken by Diddy's music and business empire? I don't know.

Christine goes on to write, Maybe now Mr. Combs is going to prison. It'll be the end of all this noise. Well, the trial hasn't started yet, so there's no reason to believe Diddy is or should be facing prison. As for his noise, well, a lot of people kind of like it. No? Yeah. He was pretty big.
AP writes, so far this podcast sounds like an old VH1 documentary rerun. Honestly, I loved the VH1 documentary reruns.

Yeah. And after that same episode, Beck writes, quote, why so much focus on an abusive man's well-being and achievement? Which honestly is a good question. But to that, my answer would be because he's not been convicted of anything yet. And everyone deserves a fair trial. And all incarcerated people deserve decent living conditions, don't they? Also, his achievements.
Yes, he was huge for the culture, is huge for the culture. So we have to point that out. You can't ignore that.
