And for people who don't know what a prosecutor is, because it's funny, because people say, oh, you're a prosecutor?

Where do you get your clients?

It's like,

I have one client, the state of Florida.

The police arrest people, and I try to convict them.

Well, it's amazing.

People have no understanding of our legal system.

It's very important that we understand that we have a very unique system where if you are arrested for a crime, you are presumed innocent.

And it is up to the state to prove that you're guilty.

Whereas in the vast majority of countries in the world, if you're arrested, you are presumed guilty and you must prove your innocence.

And let me tell you, that's not an easy thing to do in Iran or Saudi Arabia or Russia or communist China and certainly North Korea, you know.

And so we have to look at our legal system with some modicum of respect, flawed though it may be.

But when I started working as a prosecutor, one of my responsibilities was conducting first appearances.

Now, what a first appearance is, they arrest people.

And then within 24 hours of being arrested, if they're not released or bonded out from jail, they have to appear before a judge.

Okay.

And so they'd bring the prisoners in, and I'd be sitting there with a co-counsel, and the public defenders would be sitting at the table next to us.

And somebody would walk up, and I'd go, that one's a DUI.

That one's a child molester.

That one looks like drugs.
