Hockey has played a big part of my life, as many of yours. I'm not going to point out that there's an Oiler fan here. I grew up with the values that I learned on the ice, at the rink, at the kitchen table, in the classroom. My parents were teachers who stressed the importance of hard work. Of hard work. You're a teacher too?

My coaches, my hockey coaches, taught me to play hard, to be ambitious, but because it's Canada, also to be humble. And I kept those values close to me when I was managing crises here in Canada and around the world. And I remembered them whenever I was working with others to build strong economies.

The whole sports, trans sports issue, you know, it's like the old Willie Horton thing. You know, my attitude is if there's a trans athlete, no matter what side, you let the opponent, whether it's an individual sport or a team sport, you let them decide if they wanted to compete against them or not. If they feel they can win, if they feel it's not fair, it's up to them.
