This is from, continuing to just search the phrase point of view in the entire book.
From the chapter on evolution, which I think we are very much warranted in skipping, this is page 176.
He says, "...the point of view of a conscious observer is not identical to, but a sophisticated descendant of, the primordial points of view of the first replicators who divided their world into good and bad."
And in parentheses, after all, even plants have points of view in this primordial sense.
So point of view is a metaphor for, I mean, if something has eyes, a bat has eyes, it does have a point of view.
And you can ask, can the bat see its prey from its point of view?
Like this makes sense.
This is all very Aristotelian.
