But I think there's a distraction going on here.
So we have these people who have been saying this for years, by the way, that AI will wipe out humanity.
There's a 10% chance it might happen.
They've been saying that for years.
When you actually sit down and ask them, what do you mean?
It doesn't really, you know, the evidence does not suggest that at all.
But for them, the more fantastical and scary this future becomes, the more people were throwing money at them.
So if you're leading one of these big AI companies right now,
It may seem strange that they're so negative about the future, but it is driving this insane amount of money that's going into essentially one form, very narrow form of AI development that just so happens to be owned by a handful of people who believe technology is the most important thing, not human problems to be solved.
So the more people scared, the more people feel powerless, the more empowered they are.
And that's part of the challenge here.
Part of the reason I wrote this book
is to make people feel they have some power as long as they can consider alternatives.
Now, when we start believing in, you know, the end of the world is more likely than we have power to change the course of AI, that's when we should be really alarmed, not about, you know, apocalypse, but about the fact that these companies now are trying to make us feel absolutely victims.
