So it's just so hard to be discerning in the middle of these things.
And again, now we have amazing, amazing, breathtaking businesses, right, that are getting to 100 million ARRs faster than we've ever seen in history.
And that also creates an investor froth wanting to find the next one that funds dumb business.
The idea of a fake CEO
Bing and I started saying it to each other early on with Zynga.
It was a mantra, don't be a fake CEO.
And to me, I had to keep reminding myself what my job was.
Like, okay, my job is to work with great product teams on great products that our users love.
That's my job.
Nothing else is my job.
It's not my job to talk to investors.
If I do the first thing, the product, team, and customers well, it turns out it doesn't matter if I do any of the other things well.
It's not my job to go talk at conferences.
It's not my job to talk to the press.
It's not my job to be a beloved CEO and manager of people.
Those might help, but that's not my core job.
And literally, Bing and I would have my assistant track my calendar and say what percent of my hours went into my real job versus all the fake shit.
And so I tried to really stay grounded.
I always want to be at least 50%.
And it's amazing that it's a struggle to be 50% on the real shit.
