No, no one's going to hire a kid from Iowa to be on the air in Chicago.
So I got to get back to Chicago in order to, you know, one of those cliche sports references, like you can't be called to the plate if you're not in the ballpark, you know?
So I had to get back in Chicago if I ever wanted to get called to the play.
So I took a step back.
And even though I had a full-time job, I took a paid internship at WGM radio.
Three months, $900 for the three months.
It was like, they weren't paying you.
It was supposed to be like a stipend for like parking to get down to the radio station.
So as an intern, I quickly learned they didn't have a reporter and no one like Brenneman was doing shifts.
Wayne Learvey was doing shifts like these top tier guys who were play by play voices.
No one wanted to go to a game at night.
They would go during the day and they'd have no reporter.
And this is when Michael was retired.
And the Blackhawks were pretty good.
So I said, and I said to Fisher, I said, I didn't know much about hockey.
No one covers the Hawks.
Can I go cover the Hawks?
You know, and I would just do it.
to get in the locker room and to do this, to learn to do it.
And then I would cut up the sound bites from Hawks and then Bulls games.
