Two examples of that are that with the flu pandemic last year...
we were able to show that closing national borders would have had no effect at all because from genome sequences of the flu virus, it was possible to show that it had entered the UK before the first clinical cases were identified.
Sadly, it was also possible to show that the epidemic of cholera that affected Haiti after the earthquake was almost certainly brought in by some of the forces brought to help from South Asia.
