Uh and people will ask me all of the time, are you guys making these things up as you go along?

Are you building this airplane as you're flying it?

And really, in in reality, many of these terms have been around in the meteorological and climatological lexicon for many decades.

Yeah.

But because of a

an awareness in the media and social media landscape, they're out there more.

And so, you know, there's a terminology that I'll throw out since we're talking El Nino onologies, something called a teleconnection.

So yeah, that that sounds like this kindred spirit that we have between two people.

Teleconnection or we're teleporting somewhere.

But the way the weather patterns around the world are affected by El Nino is because of these teleconnections, which means you get this massive blob of hot water in the East Central Pacific, El Nino, that leads to a change in the column of

Of air above that ocean and that perturbs or disrupts the jet stream.

Think about a wave pattern in a pond, and maybe you put a some sticks or a rock in between that wave pattern.

You disrupt it.

Mm-hmm.

And so this disruption, that is El Nino, causes this teleconnection pattern in the atmosphere that propagates these weather changes all around the planet.

One of the most fascinating things for me as a meteorologist is that

If you look at the fluid flow on the planet by looking at satellite imagery, weather satellite imagery, and you see this massive fluid flow of clouds and water vapor and storms.

I'm a weather geek, so I can stare at that for hours.

But what it brings to bear is that there's this massive envelope of fluid wrapped on a planet that's rotating and

Hurling through space.
