Not just any wax cylinder, but one produced by a recording device specifically modified to capture sounds from great distances.
You see, while investigating stories that might be connected to the underground prison, I was directed to an elderly widow named Bertha Stills.
Though the tale she told me seemed utterly unbelievable...
I later discovered she possessed compelling evidence supporting its most disturbing claims.
As it happened, Mrs. Stills had a nephew in the music business who knew an inventor developing an experimental phonograph capable of making sound recordings outside the controlled environment of a studio.
Intrigued by his aunt's strange accounts, he arranged to borrow the device, hoping to record the mysterious sounds the old woman claimed echoed through the night on a regular basis.
Before we begin, allow me to provide the necessary context.
Mrs. Stills was kind enough to grant me an interview, which allowed me to record her story in detail.
What follows is her personal account of the strangeness that belegs this city.
My family's got deep roots here in Zebulon, going farther back than anyone can rightly remember.
